A Blooming Bukit Timah

I was back at Bukit Timah this morning with a friend, and quite a few of the plants there were blooming! It was rather dark in the forest though, due to the cloud cover above. I had to use flash most of the time, and so the photos did not really turn out very well.


The bat lily (Tacca integrifolia) was one of the plants blooming. The maroon flower looked really stunning.


Here's a closer look at it.


A female Baccaurea parviflora tree with a cluster of flowers at the base of the trunk.


The male flowers of B. parviflora develop directly on the trunk of the male tree.


The ground beneath the Keruing tree (Dipterocarpus caudatus) was scattered with its flowers.


The pretty flower has a pinkish centre.


The hill coconut (Curculigo sp.) has pretty little yellow flowers.


Near the summit, a lonely Ixora sp. was blooming with bunches of orange flowers.


Even the leaf litter plant (Agrostistachys longifolia) was blooming with creamy inflorescence.

Several other plants were also flowering, though unfortunately I have no idea the ID...


Saw lots of these little flowers (about 1cm wide) by the sides of the road leading up the hill, but couldn't really tell which tree they belong to since there are so many tall trees there.


At one point, one side of the road was densely covered with these petals.


Some of the shrubs were also flowering.


And this was the second time I saw this tree near the carpark blooming, but I still had no idea what tree this is.


Apart from the plants, the fungi were blooming too! I saw a mixture of pink and grey mushrooms growing on a log above, looking just like little umbrellas.


And these white mushrooms looked like... no prizes for guessing what I was thinking... little white umbrellas! Haha...


This bracket fungus does not look like an umbrella though...


Not all the fungi were growing near the ground though, and some were growing the trees too.

On our way out of the reserve, we saw a troupe of long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis).


There were little macaques...


Big macaques...


And big macaques in the process of making little macaques!

Hmm...
